About Our Pre-School

We provide pre-school for children aged from three to four years in each of our two pre-schools: Gatley

High-Quality Care

We work towards the Early Years Foundation Stage Framework, helping our children to develop through play; and preparing them for their move to school.

Encouraging Children to Learn

We carefully plan each day, so we can provide lots of different opportunities for our children to learn, develop and have fun throughout their day.

Highly Qualified Team

Our team is highly qualified and experienced, with an average of 10 years’ experience of working with children. A number of our team have Early Years teacher status, with two having honours degrees in Early Childhood studies.

A Day in Pre-School

Our day in the Pre-School, whether Gatley pre-school is structured, providing the children with the security that comes with the routine, whilst providing them with varied, interesting and stimulating activities, so that they learn and develop through play.

Our Nursery Schedule:

We carefully plan each day giving our children opportunities to undertake different activities and have different experiences.

Throughout the day our Early Years Teachers use play to teach the children literacy, numeracy and about the world we live in.

We often invite outside agencies into Pre-School to support our children’s learning. This includes singing and dancing agencies.

Our Time to Play sessions are led by the children’s interests.

We will set up the right environment for the children, taking their interests into consideration. The purpose of these activities is to provoke children’s learning and to give them the opportunity to experience new things.

This takes place indoors and outdoors, regardless of the weather, enabling the children to breathe fresh air. During these sessions we encourage the children to run around our large playground, playing with a variety of equipment to stimulate their play.

We also support the children’s development by taking them outside of Pre-School. We visit a range of places within our local communities so our children understand the importance of these communities, such as going to the village shops to buy items for the Pre-School, and posting letters.

We visit local parks, allowing the children to play and get close to nature.

We have strong relationships with residential care-homes for the elderly.

The children visit the homes regularly to sing songs, do puzzles and play games such as bingo with the care-home residents.

Both generations gain so much from these visits.

Supporting children's mental wellbeing

We look to support the mental wellbeing of our children, and spend time meditating and quietly reflecting. Our approach throughout the day is positivity – all of our team members encourage a ‘can-do’ attitude.

Menu & Mealtimes

We pride ourselves on the healthy and homemade menus we offer. We are dedicated to providing fresh, well balanced meals that not only look and taste great but provide lots of nourishment.

We believe a healthy start with the right diet is vital to a child’s well-being and long term health. Our snack and meal times are a social experience where independence and new skills are developed. Children sit together in their family groups with their key worker. Our team promotes healthy eating and has positive influences not only on nutrition but also in developing the attitudes children have towards food and healthy eating. Older children are encouraged to help set the table in preparation for lunch and serve themselves when possible. All children are encouraged to make choices and try new foods. Throughout the day children can help themselves to fruit and water.

Each site has a qualified cook that uses fresh ingredients to create homemade meals all of which are carefully planned to meet each child’s individual needs and special dietary requirements.

Our Team

Our childcare staff members are chosen not only for their qualifications but also for their experience in, and approach to, childcare. Gatley pre-school are managed by highly qualified managers and supported by experienced deputies. Each member of staff is chosen for their empathy and ability to treat each child as an individual. We are dedicated to the well-being and safety of each child and are aware of their developmental needs and personal routine as well as their likes and dislikes.

Gatley Pre-School are run by Early Years Teachers, who are supported by qualified staff. All of our staff understand the Early Years Foundation Stage Framework and design the activities they undertake with our children, to support the child’s development towards the Framework.

We are committed to furthering our staff development with a variety of childcare qualifications that are nationally recognised; ongoing training is available through a wide range of courses available to us through the Borough’s children services and/or through the childcare industry. We also have in-house training where all of our nurseries’ members of staff get together to share personal knowledge and experiences and discuss any training they have been on themselves.

Qualified Staff

Each room is run by qualified nursery nurses who with the support of their assistants are responsible for their own family groups.

Staff Training

All members of staff also receive first aid, child protection and basic food hygiene training.

Each member of staff is subjected to enhanced checks by the Disclosure & Barring Service (DBS) before joining our team and once appointed undergoes a thorough induction period and training. This covers our extensive policies, procedures and practices to ensure they understand our own high standards.

In our pre-schools our staff ratios are a minimum of:

2-3 years = 1:4*

3-5 years = 1:8*

*as required by OFSTED

All our children are allocated a key-worker.
