British Science Week 8th-14th March 2021
This year’s British Science Week will take place 8th – 14th March 2021. The week is an opportunity to celebrate science, technology, engineering and maths. We will be exploring science in the Nurseries during the Week, and undertaking some science experiments. You may like to undertake a science experiment at home with your child – how about trying this one –
Rainbow Colour Mixing
You will need a bowl, a cup of whole milk, three different food colourings, washing up liquid.
- Pour the milk into the bowl
- Carefully add three drops of one of the food colourings into one spot of the bowl of milk; approximately a third of the way around the bowl add three drops of another food colouring; and another third of the way around the bowl add three drops of the last food colouring.
3. Squeeze a drop of washing up liquid into the middle of the bowl.
4. Watch what happens!
The Science: The milk contains water and fat. The washing up liquid bonds with the fat in the milk, and repels the food colouring.
