All About Me – Our Theme for January

We have set a theme for each month of 2021 – with January’s theme being “All About Me”.

We will use the theme to help design our activities for the children, ensuring that we engage the children, undertaking fun activities which support the children’s development.  We hope parents can build upon our themes at home too, encouraging a strong partnership between parents and the Nursery.

For out theme “All About Me”, we will be working with the children so they can learn about themselves, each other and their families.  We will be exploring what makes people special.  We will discuss emotions and feelings, hobbies and interests and we will look at different cultures and religion.

At Honeybear, we believe that it is important for children to discuss their feelings and emotions.  However, some children can struggle to communicate their needs and emotions, particularly younger children.  Click here for a How Do I Feel Today? chart which can make it easier for children to communicate their feelings.  We can use this chart to encourage the children to express their emotions in calm and constructive ways.  In addition click here for a worksheet with different emotions, which the children can colour in and identify which face is showing which emotion.

We will also be looking at our different body parts.  A great way to do this is with the rhyme “Head, shoulders, knees and toes”!  Click here to download some pictures to go alongside the rhyme, to help the children understand the different parts named in the rhyme.

Our activities will also support our recognition of World Religion Day, which this year takes place on Sunday 17th January 2021.  World Religion Day is celebrated every January on the third Sunday of the month. The aim of World Religion Day is to promote understanding and peace between all religions, encouraging people to learn about other faiths and their followers.
